Key Tax Deadlines in February 2026 for Individuals

As February 2026 approaches, it's critical for individual taxpayers to be aware of upcoming tax deadlines. This guide will provide insights on estimated tax payment options, tip reporting requirements, and the deadline for submitting new W-4 forms to maintain withholding exemptions.

Estimated Tax Payment Deadline – February 2

If you’re an individual required to make estimated tax payments and missed your last installment by January 15, there is a chance to file your income tax return using Form 1040 or 1040-SR for 2025, by the start of February. Doing so, along with settling any taxes due by January 31, will prevent penalties associated with late payment. However, if additional time is needed, ensure to file and pay the necessary taxes by the April deadline.

Tip Income Reporting – February 10

If your role involves earning tips and you received $20 or more during January, make sure to report this to your employer by the 10th. Utilize IRS Form 4070, or a personal declaration including your signature, address, and social security number. Your employer will deduct FICA and income taxes based on your tip income, drawn from your regular salary. In instances where wages don’t cover these withholdings, your employer will note the uncollected tax on your annual W-2. The obligation to resolve these uncollected taxes arises when you file your yearly return.

W-4 Exemption Renewal – February 17

For those who claimed an exemption from income tax withholding last year using Form W-4, a new form must be submitted to your employer by mid-February to retain this exemption for the current year.

Extensions for Weekends, Holidays, and Disasters

Should any deadline coincide with a weekend or legal holiday, the timeframe automatically extends to the following business day. Additionally, extensions apply in declared disaster zones. Check the FEMA and IRS websites for the latest updates on any affected areas, FEMA and IRS.

Make sure your tax matters are organized and timely. Schedule a consultation with our expert team to ensure compliance and optimize your tax results this February.
